One of the most visited places in Valencia is the City of Arts and Sciences. The River Turia was diverted and so the city made the decision to construct buildings and structures on the dry riverbed.
In total, the “city” consists of 6 areas along the riverbed featuring marvelous examples of modern architecture. The first building featured in this blog is the Hemisferic, this is my favourite building at this location due to its unique shape and symmetrical design. The Hemisferic is home to an Imax cinema, a planetarium and a laserium. Santiago Calatrava designed the structure and a body of water on either side surrounds it.
Other buildings and structures in the complex include:
It is easy to see why this area is highly popular amongst locals and tourists. The “city: not only has beautiful architecture but it also has the above amenities that allow you to spend an entire day here without running out of things to do.
Personally I would visit the City of Arts and Sciences again for the architecture alone. I think it is very unique to have some many diverse buildings in close proximity to each other and it is definitely worth more than one trip to this location. If you find yourself in Valencia for a day then I highly recommend you check it out.
