Nanjing Road is the main shopping street in Shanghai and it is one of the busiest shopping streets in the world. It stretches from the east at The Bund to the junction of the Jingan Temple and Yan'an West Street in the West. The total length of Nanjing Road is 3.4 miles.
The main attraction here for foreign visitors and tourists is the many shopping opportunities available on this road. Over 600 businesses are located in the area including restaurants, fast food, fashion stores and electronic shops.
Up market fashion brands include Mont Blanc, Burberry, Dunhill etc while staple American and European brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Guess and GAP also have established themselves here.
It is estimated that 1,700,000 people walk along this street every day and you can see from my photos that at some times the crowds almost come to a standstill. If you are in a hurry walking to a destination I recommend taking an alternative route other than this main shopping street due to the fact that the large volume of people can take a very long time to walk in any direction. There are many roads that run parallel to the Nanjing Road that are less crowded.
If you fancy some quick food after your shopping there are multiple fast food options available to you including KFC, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut. Various vendors also sell quick snacks like Ice Cream, Banana Cakes and Cookies.
If you like fashion and shopping, this street in Shanghai is the place to go. Be wary that you will have to navigate large crowds but if this doesn’t bother you your trip here should be a positive one.
How to get there:
Take the Metro to East Nanjing Road station
