Located in the centre of the Dongdaemun area, Dongdaemun Design Plaza has established itself as an iconic landmark of modern architecture and design in Seoul. It is the brainchild of Zaha Hadid, a world-renowned London-based architect who passed away in March 2016.
The urban concrete mass of this building also incorporates green spaces uniting the relationship between man and nature.
Visitors refer to the design of the main building as a ‘spaceship’. The large amounts of concrete and sleek silver design give it a futuristic feel almost like something out of a science fiction movie.
Many photographers use this urban landscape as a backdrop for photoshoots, at night the structure really comes to life when the LED lights are switched on around the entire plaza.
Inside the main building there are conference halls built for trade shows, exhibitions and fashion shows. In the design lab, artist’s work is promoted and sales of creative design products are marketed here.
